Shailendra Agarwal

Mr. Shailendra Agarwal is a former civil servant and has had an extensive, varied and fulfilling career as an IAS officer for 33 years in the State Government of Rajasthan, Government of India, and international organisations including the World Trade Organization (WTO), Geneva. He retired from Government service in January 2019 as Additional Chief Secretary. His career has spanned diverse sectors such as Infrastructure (Power and Transport), Industries (Mines & Minerals, Liquor, Tourism, Agro Industries and MSMEs) as well as social and development sectors including Social Welfare, Health, Archaeology and Education.

A continued pursuit of his interest in growth, development and governance led him to Family Business Consulting. He has since worked on numerous assignments with business families, helping them design their business and family constitutions. His vast experience across organisations of varying industries and sizes enables him to work effectively with families of different complexities. He specialises in family communication, dealing with intergenerational issues, facilitating induction and mentoring programmes for the next generation, fostering effective sibling and cousin partnerships, and supporting management succession planning.

Shailendra brings considerable coaching experience across generations, helping family members understand diverse perspectives and align their personal aspirations with the broader family vision. He also has wide corporate exposure, having served on the Boards of various Government and private-sector companies, corporations and educational institutions. He has headed several large public-sector corporations in the Power, Transport, Minerals and Tourism sectors as Chairman, Managing Director or CMD - organisations with multi-thousand crore businesses and large workforces. He holds postgraduate degrees in Science from St. Stephen’s College, University of Delhi, and in Economic Administration from Rajasthan University. He resides in Jaipur, Rajasthan, with his wife, while both his daughters are settled abroad.
